Gas processing plants, petroleum cleaning warehouses, and scrap metal and ironworks companies bank the canal along its entire length.  Sights like this are frequent.  Plans are underway to reinhabit the canal with oysters, which can filter 50 gallons of polluted water a day.

This statue stands outside the Bryan house on Cemetery Ridge, where a fortified Union army obliterated an uphill, nearly mile-long Confederate charge of 13,000 men on a broiling July afternoon in 1863.
