Terre Haute, IN.  Cindy, a high school senior, on the porch of the house where she often lives on her own. She’s a drum major and plans to attend the Naval Academy.  Frank, a corn and sorghum farmer, collects Native American stoneware in his farmhouse just south of town.  He’s acquired a bulldozer to clear an old coal field on his property for pasture.
